Gordon B Hood
– May 21, 2015
Gordon B. Hood, 89, of Manchester, NH, died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, the son of the late Andrew and Louise (Coats) Hood. Gordon, known familiarly as “Hop,” served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester and was employed by the Manchester Water Works for many years until his retirement. Members of his family include sons Bruce Hood and his wife Joyce, and David Hood. In addition, he leaves five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Gertrude, who passed away on February 10th, 2015. Gordon was known for his fun-loving approach to life. He always found a way to make people smile, especially children. It was not uncommon for them to come to the door to ask if “Hoppy” could come out to “play”. Gordon took great pride in his home and maintaining its grounds. If anyone needed help with a project, he was happy to lend a hand. He loved tools, lawnmowers, cars, his hat collection, and also enjoyed woodworking. As his sons grew, Gordon spent time passing on his skills, as well as numerous lawnmowers, to his sons, giving him reason to buy yet another new one. Gordon loved the outdoors, and in his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing with a regular foursome several days a week. He even cultivated a putting green in his backyard, and once scored a hole-in-one at the Londonderry Country Club. The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff of the Fuller Unit at the Elliot Hospital for the expert, compassionate, and respectful care of Gordon and for the consideration afforded his family during his brief stay there. There are no calling hours. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester, NH. Arrangements are in the care of the Cain & Janosz Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 74 Brook St, corner of Pine, Manchester, NH. Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Red Cross by visiting www.redcross.org, or to the Manchester Salvation Army, 121 Cedar Street, Manchester, NH 03101.
